The history of Thaphae Boxing Stadium, Chiang Mai:
Thaphae Stadium in Chiang Mai was opened in the late 1980s under the name Babia Center. The Babia Center should serve as a tourist attraction and the many visitors of the city were able to meet the Thai culture in different shows in the stadium. Initially there were no real Muay Thai fights. There were more show fights and ladyboy cabaret shows.
The Babia Center was transformed into a proper Muay Thai Stadium and renamed Thaphae Stadium in 2003. The new owners Kob and Natulant left no stone unturned to transform the new ring in a serious Muay Thai Stadium. So they hired the best box promoters to implement interesting fights in the new boxing ring. That they managed this successfully is proven by the fact that the Northern Thai Boxing Championship is scheduled in Thaphae stage.
